Tim, I wonder if the first part, covering the trip in Ireland, should be published in the Quarterly.  It's a fascinating account.

A strong second on the suggestion to reprint in the Quarterly, unless there is a copyright issue.

no copyright issues.

John James Dowling was a 2d cousin of my great grandfather Edward Lamoine Dowling. Ed's dad James was born in Kilgefin, county Roscommon in 1822.
